Halloween is a fun, spooky time of year enjoyed by all ages! Especially for young children who love roaming the neighborhoods for delicious candy! Safety is a top priority for parents on this night. Parents with kids who have allergies can be a challenge to find candy that is safe for them. That is why spreading the message about the Teal Pumpkin project is so important this year! This project provides special “allergy-friendly halloween” treats that will not trigger allergic reactions, allowing your kiddos to partake in the fun! The Teal Pumpkin Project was founded by the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE).

How does it work?

Put out a teal pumpkin on your doorstep near your allergy-safe snacks! You can also print a poster that explains what the snacks are to signal to parents and kids that these snacks are safe. You can also buy little toys instead of snacks to make them feel extra loved!

  • Bubbles
  • Stickers
  • Halloween related trinkets
  • Crayons
  • Glow sticks

If you are interested in participating in this project this Halloween. In that case, you must carefully read labels on candy before purchasing any. Selecting the treats can be difficult because 100% allergy-free food does not really exist. We did a little research on what treats are considered safe for most allergies.

  • Fruit Snacks
  • Jolly Ranchers
  • Starbursts Pops
  • Fruit Roll-Ups
  • Laffy Taffy
  • Starbursts
  • Swedish Fish

Typical snacks that can trigger allergies tend to have dairy products, nuts, and soy.

If you want to be creative, there are so many allergy-safe recipes to bake goodies, too!
