While the temps maybe warming back up for us across Central and South Texas, we know how quickly things can change! Don’t fear your asthma when cold weather strikes. There are tips and actions you can take to breathe easier in cold air so that you don’t miss out on sunshine and fun this winter!

Cover your nose/mouth

When you head out on a cold day for a walk or hike, be sure to cover your mouth and nose with a scarf. Breathing in and out through the scarf will help to warm and humidify the air before it hits your lungs.

It’s that cold air that can irritate your lungs, so warming it up a little bit can be very helpful for avoiding uncomfortable winter asthma symptoms.

In through your nose, out through your mouth

Similarly, breathing in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth will warm up air, making it less harsh and abrasive.

Warm up inside

If you’re heading out for a workout, be sure to do a gentle warm up inside to help your lungs and body adjust more quickly to outside temperatures.

Use your inhaler

15-30 minutes before you plant to head outside, use your inhaler.
