Seasonal allergies can live on even in the autumn months. The antagonizing symptoms of allergies, sore throat and itchy nose affect hundreds of individuals during the fall. These allergies we will be going over today are especially prevalent in Texas and other parts of the Midwest. 

Fall allergies

Dust

The one thing that is everywhere and cannot be avoided. The Midwest is a place where dust can be found in high amounts. Once dust moves to the lungs and throat, the body’s immune system reacts, causing inflammation. Dust is made up of dirt and sand when wind comes and mixes with these substances air pollution is formed. Common dust allergy symptoms are:

  • Sneezing
  • Itchy/watery eyes
  • Stuffing/runny nose
  • Worsens asthma
  • Shortness of breath

Ragweed 

The season of the rag weed begins in August all the way to the end of October. Mostly common in the Midwest, the yellow weed can create up to 1 billion pollen grains! Ragweed’s typically grow in wet places, near streams and riverbanks. People with asthma may very well be at risk of suffering from ragweed pollen. 

Mold

Mold is a fungus that is terrible for your health. Being allergic to mold is even worse to deal with if the environment is infested by it. Mold can live airborne indoors in moist environments and typically survive the chilly autumn temperatures. The symptoms of mold are like other reactions but require unique methods to find relief. 

  • Wipe off damp surfaces and places such as bathrooms or basements where there are pipes. 
  • Ensure any leaks are fixed to prevent water from seeping inside. 
  • Purchase an air purifier that cleans the air of mold.
